Book-to-book proof: A proof used to determine the correct number of shares or bonds in a portfolio. Disregarding market value, the proof looks at the opening number of shares (or bonds) for a specific security, adds purchases and subtracts sales, adjusts for Corporate Actions and calculates an ending number of shares (or bonds).
